Below are a few links that I think many of you will find helpful. These are not the only sources you can use online, but they may be helpful places to start. These don't just contain modern information, but information on American life, crime, work, and death going back decades. Many countries have similar resources, though of course you may run into language barriers, and not all will be freely, digitally available.

Medieval Manuscripts Online

Thanks to digitization efforts by libraries around the world, images of early manuscripts are becoming increasingly available for free online.  This makes them more accessible and goes beyond the many physical limitations that are often associated with these materials: fragilility, careful handling, travel, special permissions, etc...
