Academic Support

Academics can be overwhelming, especially in the first few semesters. At OWU, there are many ways to get help.

  • Sagan Academic Resource Center
    • ➼ The Academic Skills Center assists students in areas such as time management, note-taking, study and test-taking skills, and stress management.  For an additional level of academic and coaching support, students may choose to participate in Bishop ACCESS—a fee-based program for students who wish to enhance executive functioning skills.
    • ➼ The Accessibility Services Office promotes access and opportunities for students with disabilities through collaboration with the other Centers in the Sagan Academic Resource Center and collaborates across campus with Counseling, the Residential Life Office, the Office of Holistic Advising, and the faculty.
    • ➼ Departmental Peer Tutoring is available for a variety of subjects, including, but not limited to, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Spanish. Click the link above to view current offerings.
    • ➼ The Quantitative Skills Center provides tutoring and assistance to both individuals and groups in any quantitative area of their studies, as well as GRE preparation. The Q-Center is staffed by peer and professional tutors with advanced mathematics experience.
    • ➼ The Writing Center provides one-on-one tutoring and instruction by professional writing consultants and peer tutors. Besides working with students on writing skills and assignments across the curriculum, the staff works with students on resumes, cover letters, and personal statements for graduate and professional schools.
  • OWU Library
    • The OWU Library is prepared to help you with every step of the research process from picking a paper topic to finding resources to assisting with source citations. You can send an email, chat online, or book an appointment with a subject librarian
    • ➼Use Sage Skills: Student Success to learn research best practices, information literacy basics, and how to become a better writer. Or access Sage Skills: Business to practice skills you will need after college.
    • ➼Library staff are great campus connectors! If you have a question or concern but are unsure which department to contact, they can help guide you to the correct place.
