UC 160: Why I Want to Travel to...

This guide will introduce you to the OWU Libraries' basic services. In particular, it will highlight resources and areas you may find useful in completing your brief essay about where you want to travel and why.

The Library Catalog - CONSORT

CONSORT is the library's catalog.

You've probably used a library catalog before if you every used your school or local public library. Basically, it's a website that let's you search for the books we have and tells you where they are so you can either

  • access them online if they are available as an ebook, or
  • find them on the shelf and check them out.

A call number is like the address of a book that tells you exactly where a book lives on the shelf.

The OWU Libraries, like most university libraries, use Library of Congress call numbers. This might be different than your high school or public library which may have used the Dewey Decimal numbers.

If you have trouble finding a book by its call number, take a moment to watch this short video from McMaster University Library, which explains how to read a call number and how to use it to find your book:
