We had a fantastic turnout at our Town Hall on November 12 to discuss the Library Complex and Arts Arena project. We hope you are as excited as we are about all of the progress being made as we collaborate to create a world-class facility.
Here's a recap of what was shared:
Project Update -- The President announced significant progress on the project, including approval from the Board of Trustees to move forward with the schematic design phase. Attendees got a first look at the latest plans, which include a complete renovation of Beeghly Library with new additions.
Library Complex and Arts Arena Presentation -- Matt Franklin of Levin Porter walked us through the project phases and unveiled conceptual drawings. We learned about the exciting new spaces being designed for library services, performing arts, and the fine arts. The design process will take about 6 months to complete and involve many conversations with faculty, staff, and students as we start to define the spaces in the new building.
Operational Updates -- Dee Peterson provided updates on current library operations, including special collections, the print collection rebuild, and the statewide switch to a new library catalog and discovery system scheduled to go live during the summer. Information regarding regular library services, hours, etc., can be found on the main library website, most specifically in the blog, Library FAQ, and Library Services Map. Updates on the Library of the Future Project can be found on the dedicated Library of the Future guide.
Q&A Session -- The team answered questions from the audience about the project timeline and building plans.
If you weren’t able to join us on November 12, we invite you to watch the recording of the session using this link. You may also use the feedback form at any time. We are looking forward to working with the campus and community as this project evolves!
