About the Privacy Pods

The Privacy Pod is located on the Ground Floor of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, just outside the bookstore.

It is a soundproof, multi-functional space designed to fit up to four people

This space is ideal for individuals or small group work that require a private, soundproof location like podcasting, a counseling session, job interviews, or virtual class attendance. It is ADA compliant and equipped with automatic air ventilation and lights.

Two additional pods will be made available later this year.

Sound and Privacy Level

The available meeting pod is designed to be completely soundproof. It is located along the wall outside the campus bookstore on a lower level to provide some privacy.  However, due to the glass sides and placement near other public spaces people will still be able to see inside the pod.

If you are seeking a truly private space, we encourage you to reach out to Campus Reservations to discuss room options available via the campus calendar system.

Guidelines for Use

  • When not formally reserved (signage outside the pods will indicate reservation status), the pods are open for use.
  • Please be mindful of when the next reservation begins.
  • Keep the Pods clean and clear out belongings/trash after use.
  • Return any borrowed equipment to the Media Services desk in Corns.

Reservations

Who Can Reserve

  • Any current student, staff or faculty member may reserve a Privacy Pod.
  • Reservations are on a first come, first serve basis. At this time, reservations cannot be placed more than two weeks out.
  • We kindly ask that the same group or individual not sign up for more than one reservation per day to give others a chance for use.

How to Reserve

  • Reserve the Pods through Google Calendar here.
  • The Pods can be reserved 9am to 5pm in 1 hour increments.
  • Reservations for consecutive, concurrent or recurring meetings are not permitted at this time in order to allow everyone a chance for use.

Funding

The original purchase of the first privacy pod was made possible through the generosity of a donor to the OWU Libraries.

The ability to move the first pod from Beeghly Library to its current location was supported in part by the LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) program, funded through the independent federal agency IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services), and granted through the State Library of Ohio.

OWU Libraries wishes to express their gratitude to IMLS, the State Library of Ohio, and our colleagues in Student Engagement and Success for making this space available to our students once again.

Note: The opinions expressed herein do not necessarily reflect the position or policy of IMLS or the State Library of Ohio, and no official endorsement by either agency should be inferred.
