You have a research assignment coming up. Okay. But, what does that mean?

Each research project will be different, but generally, your professor has asked you to investigate a topic from multiple perspectives. You will then use all of the sources that you have found to craft an argument using your own words and from your own perspective.

This task can seem daunting, but if you follow the process laid out in this module, you can develop valuable skills that will make writing your paper easier.

The most important thing for you to know as you start working on your project is that research is complex. You won’t have much success if you jump straight into a search without spending time analyzing your topic and thinking through your search strategy.

Through this module, we will cover the following steps of the research process. Note that you may need to go back and repeat steps as you refine your topic and information needs.
