Library Collection Management

Collection Review

OWU Librarians will regularly review the collections to ensure that we are maintaining a fresh and functional set of resources for our users. Resources will be evaluated per the criteria stated in the Libraries' Collection Development Policy, including:

  • relevance to current curriculum and programming;
  • physical condition;
  • accessibility;
  • use history;
  • and cost/budget.

Librarians will also periodically review consortial agreements for continued access to electronic resources.

Items that do not meet the parameters set forth in the policy will be recommended for deselection and removal from the collection. See below for lists of items currently under consideration for deselection.

Retention Request Form

If you want the Libraries to retain an item under review, please fill out this form. Add information based on what you see on the lists linked above.

Withdrawal Procedures

If an item is chosen for deselection, it will be physically removed from the shelf and its holdings removed from the online catalog. Withdrawn items will be sent for reuse via various resale vendors or for local physical recycling.
