What's Happening at the Library

New Shelving Locations in the Catalog

by Amanda Raab on 2024-07-11T09:05:02-04:00 | 0 Comments

In order to make library materials you find in the catalog easier to find on the shelf, we are implementing some new shelving location names. Since the bulk of our circulating collections now reside in Hobson Library, and that collection includes all subject areas, we want to remove the “science” from the location label.

These changes will go into effect, Thursday, July 11th, by 5pm Eastern.

Here are the new shelving locations:

OWU Main Stacks These include all circulating items in the principal shelving area in Hobson.
OWU Reference These are non-circulating items located in the first sections of the short shelving units next to the public computers and seating area in Hobson. These include materials like writing and citation guides, encyclopedias, and dictionaries.
OWU Reserves These are course reserve items that are kept behind the Hobson circulation desk. Please ask a staff member for assistance to access these materials.
OWU AV Circulating These are physical audio and video recordings available for checkout. These are also kept behind the Hobson circulation desk. Please ask a staff member for assistance to access these materials.
OWU Periodicals These are journals and magazines at Hobson. Current issues are located on the display shelves facing the study tables next to the windows. Older issues and bound issues are located on the large shelves, preceding the book collection

Here’s how this will look in the online catalog:

There will be new directive signage on the shelves themselves, but please ask a staff member if you need assistance. Any further questions? Ask us!
