From the OWU President's Office:

Library of the Future

We have hired a team of two architecture firms to lead us in this exciting project, which will help shape the OWU student experience for decades to come.

Pfeiffer Partners is an international leader in the design of academic libraries and performance spaces. They are based in New York and Los Angeles, and have designed more than 5 million square feet of academic library space. Their recent work includes Colorado College Tutt Library, American University Cairo Library, University of California-Santa Barbara Library, Seattle University A.A. Lemieux Library, Yale Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, and Gonzaga University Performing Arts Center.

Levin Porter Architects, based in Miamisburg, Ohio, specializes in architecture, planning, and interior design. They also have extensive experience in education and library design, including the design of the University of Dayton’s Roesch Library, Hathcock Hall, and Center for Online Learning. As an Ohio-based firm, they know our region and the building and construction companies and suppliers in our marketplace.

In our meetings with these firms, they have demonstrated their thorough understanding of what we want to do and why, creating a library that is a hub for students and faculty with meaningful, flexible, creative, and compelling indoor and outdoor spaces. They have experience with the dynamic interactions of spaces for study, creation, research, collaboration, as well as practice of the fine and performing arts. We have been impressed with their can-do attitude and ability to complete projects on time and within budget. The architecture team will build upon the campus planning work CREDO has performed, which will propel the work at a faster pace and in a more strategic, holistic manner.

Over the next few weeks, Levin Porter President Matt Franklin, Pfeiffer Design Principal Alberto Cavallero, and their teams will lead discussions with faculty, staff, and students to gather information that will help them design our library of the future, as well as possible spaces for the fine and performing arts along the JAYwalk. Some sessions will be set aside for specific groups (faculty or students, for example), and some will be open sessions.

I encourage you to join in this conversation. Input from the campus at this stage of the project is vital.

Please watch the OWU Daily for announcements of these sessions. They also will be posted on the OWU Library website.
