Database Descriptions
- Academic
Search Complete designed specifically for academic institutions,
is the world's most valuable and comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary
full-text database, with more than 5,500 full-text periodicals,
including more than 4,600 peer-reviewed journals. In addition
to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for
more than 9,500 journals and a total of nearly 10,000 publications
including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The
database features PDF content going back as far as 1865, with
the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format.
Searchable cited references are provided for nearly 1,000 journals
- ACLS Humanities E-Book is an online collection of over 3,700 books of high quality in the humanities,

Digital Library provides
bibliographic information, abstracts, index terms, reviews,and
the full-text for ACM conference proceedings. ACM journals, magazines,
and newsletters are also available at this site, as well as through
the OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center.
- African-American
Poetry Database includes
the full text of almost 3000 poems written by African-American
poets in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. African-American
Poetry is a resource for literary scholars and for researchers
in black studies, linguistics, women's studies, black literary
heritage, and comparative studies. The poetry explores a multitude
of topics, including abolition, children, civil rights, dreams,
education, fugitive slave law, Indian raids, liberty, political
issues, prejudice, and slavery. The variety of poem types is equally
broad. The database includes allegories, broadsides, children's
poems, elegiac poems, epics, hymns, odes, patriotic poems, and
sonnets. The poets are among those included in the William French
et al. bibliography, Afro-American Poetry and Drama, 1760-1975.
The full-text of the poems is included and is fully searchable.
- AGRICOLA provides citations to journal
articles, monographs, theses, patents, software, audio-visual
materials, and technical reports. The records describe publications
and resources encompassing all aspects of agriculture and allied
disciplines including plant and animal sciences, forestry, entomology,
soil and water resources, agricultural economics, agricultural
engineering, agricultural products, alternative farming practices,
and food and nutrition. Auxiliary subjects that support NAL's
Information Center activities, such as agricultural trade and

Newspapers is
a collection of full-text newspapers available online. The database
includes 17 Ohio newspapers, plus other major newspapers from
other states. Content includes local and regional news, including
community events, schools, politics, government policies, cultural
activities, local companies, state industries, and people in the
community.

Drama currently contains more than 700 plays from over
300 dramatists. When finished, American Drama will feature the
complete texts of more than 2,000 plays written by American dramatists.

National Biography Online is a biographical resource on more than 18,000 people from all
eras who have influenced and shaped American history and culture.
The ANB Online features thousands of illustrations, more than
80,000 hyperlinked cross-references, links to select web sites,
and powerful search capabilities. Also included are over 900 articles
from The Oxford Companion to United States History, which provides
information on the landmark events in U.S. history and gives context
to the lives included in ANB Online.

Periodical Series contains digitized images
of the pages of American magazines and journals that originated
between 1741, when Andrew Bradford's American Magazine and Benjamin
Franklin's General Magazine were launched, and 1900. Deriving
from the acclaimed American Periodicals Series microform collection,
APS Online features over 1,100 periodicals spanning nearly 200
years-from colonial times to the advent of American involvement
in World War II. Titles range from America's first scientific
journal, Medical Repository, to popular magazines like Vanity
Fair and Ladies' Home Journal.

Unbound presents topically-focused digital collections of historical documents

Unbound cover a broad range of topics from the Middle Ages

thousands of high resolution images from many times and cultures
in the areas of art, architecture, the humanities, and social
sciences. Includes images of architecture, painting, photography,

Premier contains full text from the world's top anagement and

Online Journals covers 98.5% of the core journals in China.
- CINAHL
Plus (Nursing) the Cumulative Index of Nursing and
Allied Health Literature provides nursing and allied health articles
from 600 publications.
- Communication
& Mass Media Complete incorporates CommSearch (formerly
produced by the National Communication Association) and Mass Media
Articles Index (formerly produced by Penn State) along with numerous
other journals to create a research and reference resource in
the communication and mass media fields. CMMC offers cover-to-cover
(core) indexing and abstracts for over 300 journals,
and selected (priority) coverage of over 100 more,
for a combined coverage of over 400 titles. Furthermore, this
database includes full text for nearly 200 journals. Many major
journals have indexing, abstracts, PDFs and searchable citations

- Dictionary of Literary Biography Complete Online provides access to biographical essays focusing on all genres and time periods of American and British literature and selected other literatures. Essays discuss the lives and careers of authors and summarize critical responses to their work.

Resource Center (OhioLINK) provides access to images, sounds, video, numeric data, and other
types of media information for the community and the world.
- Dissertation
Abstracts contains more than 2 million entries for
doctoral dissertations and master's theses. The database includes
citations for materials ranging from the first U.S. dissertation,
accepted in 1861, to those accepted as recently as last semester.
Since 1997, new publications have been available electronically,
and many publications can be ordered through the system for a
fee. The database represents the work of authors from over 1,000
North American graduate schools and European universities.

American Fiction contains
440 works of 80 novelists and short-story writers, 1774-1850.
This database comprises the full texts of the first editions of
American novels and short stories written before 1850 by authors
of significance during their lifetimes.
- Ebrary features subscription access to over 70,000 titles in electronic
format from academic publishers covering all of the major disciplines.
- Ebsco
eBooks Collection (formerly NetLibrary)
is a library of electronic books (e-books) on many academic subjects.
The collection includes thousands of titles purchased by OhioLINK,
plus thousands of public-domain e-books. Users can preview an
e-book online, peruse a page, read each page in depth, jump to
specific chapters or pages, or use links in the Table of Content
or Index to go directly to specific chapters of interest. Every
word in every book is searchable. This collection operates on
the library check-out model, where readers check out e-books for
a specified amount of time.
- EconLit is a comprehensive, indexed bibliography with selected abstracts
of the world's economic literature, produced by the American Economic
Association. It includes coverage of over 400 major journals as
well as articles in collective volumes (essays, proceedings, etc.),
books, book reviews, dissertations, and working papers licensed
from the Cambridge University Press Abstracts of Working Papers
in Economics.

This continuously updated bibliographic database is an indispensable

Science Full Text is
a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts articles of

- GeoRef
provides access to the geoscience literature of the world. The
database contains references to geoscience journal articles, books,
maps, conference papers, reports and theses.
- Google Books is a digitized collection of books from a variety of partners including libraries. It includes both in copyright and public domain items. For out of copyright and public domain items, users can access the entire text. If the entire text is not available or you wish to find the book in print, Google added a link which allows users to search for the book in their local library collections.
- Google
Scholar search for scholarly literature. From one
place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: articles,
theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers,
professional societies, online repositories, universities and
other web sites.

Monthly Catalog is a catalog of U.S. Government documents.
- GreenFILE offers well-researched information
covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection
of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes
content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable
agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more.
- GREENR focuses on the physical, social, and economic aspects of environmental issues.
- Heritage of the Printed Book Database (formerly Hand Press Book Database) includes 764,000 records from the Consortium of European
Research Libraries for European printing during the hand-press
period.
- HarpWeek:
The Civil War Era and Reconstruction has the full text and images of Harper's Weekly, 1857-1865.
- HathiTrust is a digitized collection of books and serials from libraries and research institutions devoted to preservation, open access and ease of use. Collections include both freely-viewable public domain items (e.g. published before 1923) and in-copyright limited-view items. For those items with limited access, one can still perform a full text search for certain key words. Contact a librarian for more information about this option. This collection is especially recommended for the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Naxos Music Library, is an online streaming music database of
international works from Classical to Spoken Word. The 78,000+

more than 300 years, it is a large collection of women's diaries
and correspondence.
- Ohio
Capital Connection provides information about
current and past legislation of the Ohio General Assembly. Updated
daily, it has the complete status and full text of bills introduced
in the Ohio General Assembly. This database includes rosters of
House and Senate members searchable by name or location, and addresses
and biographies of the General Assembly members. While the database
focuses on Ohio, information about the Federal government is also
available.

African American Studies Center The OAASC
provides an authoritative and comprehensive source of information
on the African American experience. It features the content
of five major encyclopedias, and content from eighteen additional
reference sources that are published by Oxford University Press.
Also included are images, maps, charts, multimedia content, and
primary source documents. The OAASC is updated 3-4 times
yearly.
