How to Guides - Locate the Adapter Address - Windows

Windows 2000/XP/Vista

1. On the keyboard, hold down the Windows button (lower left). Press and release the "r" key. This will display a window.

2. In the Run window type cmd and click OK.

3. In the Command Prompt box, type ipconfig/all and press Enter. This will display a long list of information. The information is divided into several sections such as:

  • Windows IP Configuration
  • Ethernet adapter wireless LAN
  • Ethernet adapter wired LAN
The adapter address is listed as the "Physical Address". It is a string of 12 alphanumeric characters in 6 sets of 2 characters. (xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx)

Be sure to view information in the appropriate section depending on what you are trying to do.
