Citation Tools and Resources

Why cite. How to cite. Where to cite.

Why Cite

Citing your sources demonstrates that you are aware of the scholarship conducted in your area of interest and how your research contributes to that body of work. When you acknowledge the work of others, it shows that you respect their work and ideas as intellectual property.

Citing credible and authoritative sources also lends support to the arguments you make in your paper and your readers get the information they need to pursue the resources you cited that pique their own interest.

There are many different citation styles for the various disciplines so always check with your professor to find out what style you are expected to use for your assignments.

Copyright and Plagiarism

Citing your sources can also help you avoid plagiarism and copyright infringement.
