Important Journals

Articles offering criticism and interpretation of all aspects of art history are published in academic journals. The following is a list of some of the more respected journals that may often include scholarship on the art and artists of the modern art period.


The Art Bulletin

Peer-reviewed journal that publishes scholarship in all areas of art history.
Published quartlery by the College Art Association.
Peer-reviewed journal offering critical reviews and essays concerning art and visual culture in all places and time periods.
Published five times per year by the Assocation of Art Historians.
Peer-reviewed journal offering scholarship in the history of visual arts.
Published quarterly by the College Art Assocation.
Peer-reviewed journal offering scholarship in feminist concerns with the women's art movement.
Published twice per year by Old City Publishing, Inc.
A magazine offering articles on respected artists and their works, book reviews, and reviews of current exhibitions around the world. Not a peer-reviewed journal, but still a respectable resource for information about the visual arts.
Published monthly.

Article Databases

Find All
