How to Use This Guide

This guide was created with the intention of providing students and faculty a gateway to some of the most important resources housed within the OWU Libraries as well as on the World Wide Web. A large part of its focus is American politics, but a list of some of the most important resources for international politics is also included. This guide is meant to serve as a starting place for research. If your research or assignment requires more detailed help, please contact the librarian for these areas of study, Audrey Heisel.

Location of Government Documents in Beeghly Library

Going through, one might notice a difference between the call number for a book and the call number for a government document. Books in Beeghly Library use the LC classification system, which organizes books by subject. Government documents, following the SuDoc system, groups documents together based on the government agency that produced them. A good way to identify a SuDoc number is, unlike LC call numbers, SuDoc numbers have colons : and slashes / within the call number like A 93.10/2:160. For a more thorough explanation of the SuDoc system, you can visit the SuDoc Explanation Page.

Please note, that in addition to having a different looking call number, government documents are also located in a special designated area of the library behind the reference stacks. For more information about locating government documents, check out our guide.
